Johnson VRO to fuel only (change pump)
'93 Johnson, 115 hp V4
Previous owner removed the oil tank, unpluged the electrical for the oiler and has been premixing the fuel. I've just rebuilt both carbs and was still having trouble with the motor under the cups. It was acting like it had too much air mixing with the fuel so I was going back over the hose fitings. I noticed the fuel inlet hose into the pump was not up all the way, moved the clamp down and while trying to move the hose up tighter, part of the pump broke and exposed a couple of ports surrounded by sealed with O rings. Marine parts house informs me that I need a new pump as it's not repairable.
I'm looking into replacing the VRO pump with a regular pump. I've no idea what part number to purchase. The Dealers parts man told me I would need a diaphram as well.
Questions
1- What model number fuel pump will work?
2- I've got the fuel line from primer bulb feeding in, plus two other lines that were connected to the pump. Do the other two lines feed each of the two carbs? Note* the oiler line was already disconnected.
3- Will I need to purchase a diaphram?
I could use some step by step guidance on this and do appreciate any help.

FYI, I ended up purchasing a pump for an older model Johnson. It had 3 connections, one for the fuel inlet, one for the outlet to the carbs and one for the pulse connection from the block. She's running like she should now.

i had kind of a similar problem with mine, the pump itself was puling in air. And at WOT my engine would die due to too much air coming in. I ended up having a seal made to fit in the vro to keep the air out. If and when i have it happen again i will do what your doing and and just get rid of the vro

I have the same motor year and all, bought new in 1993. Bought one new VRO about 1996, somewhere around $400.00. I lasted till maybe 2002, then tore out the oil tank, replaced with fuel only pump, don't remember the price but much cheaper. Mix gas as I put it in! No ethanol gas in mine for years, and have had no problems! Thank God!

Re: Johnson VRO to fuel only (change pump)
I've got an older 50hp that has been fully converted to premix. The pump on mine quit altogether and when i was looking the cost to convert was about 300 less than replacing the vro. Best thing i ever did for that motor.
