    Default Fuel primer

I installed a new key ignition switch in my Evinrude control box because a key was broke off in the switch by the previous owners kids.Everything was working great till recently when the choke solenoid quit working when I pushed in on the ignition switch. I can manually choke the motor but I have to take the cover off each time! How do I check to see if I'm getting current back to the primer from the ignition and if the primer solenoid is bad?Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It has been years since I have even seen one of these. Pull the hood off find the choke solenoid and the attaching wires. Attach a test light to the wire coming into the solenoid and ground the other end. Turn the key on and push in the key if the test light comes on then you know the solenoid is bad, if not then start checking wire, connections and the switch in the control box.

You should hear it click when you push the key in.

Thanks guys. It's a 88 mdl. Evinrude. I'll give it a try and see what's up!

After testing my circuit from the switch to the solenoid I find no current. So to fix this I installed a single toggle switch to control my choke solenoid and it works perfectly now.The switch I installed is waterproof and is mounted on the top of the bracket that holds my control box. Easy to use! A whole lot cheaper than buying another ignition switch!

    Default Fuel primer

That is a great idea on the switch! If mine ever quits it will be a momentary switch on the dash!

just don't forget to turn it off unless it's the type you have to hold up to stay on
