the best advice is to get one that's at the very least 42" floor width. 48" is better. i prefer the carpeted factory boats because they have more flotation than a regular jon and tend to be more stable. not sure of your budget, but you could get a bass tracker panfish 16 or something similar for @ $3000-4000 in good shape, and they usually will have trolling motors, anchors, livewells etc. most jons dont have that.
I have a G3 1448lw and love it! Aint the biggest or prettiest but fishes 2 people vry well and super stable.
Same as above 48" minimum also 20" in rear for sure . 15 hp engine on rear place batteries in front of front row. Also after securing a trolling motor place 2 sheets of treated painted plywood down for a deck. Mt 1 or 2 pedestals with Tempress $129 seats after rolling astroturf on complete interior of boat. You can thank me later, take me fishing or something nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lowe boat $13
kTrolling motor 80 thrust plus $650
50,trailer $800 13" tires, engine $2300, batteries $200, interior supplies $350. Fun for 30 years plus PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As stated above, a 48" minimum floor width will make for decent stablility. The 20" transom would be a plus as well. I think a 1648 (16' long, 48" floor) jon boat with a 20" transom is probably one of the most versatile hulls out there for a general purpose rig on fairly calm waters. Good luck and I hope you find a boat that works well for you.
After looking at some of the guys yaks on here and the ways they are set up that it might be an option too. The exercise is a plus too. Stealthy, peaceful and you could get to places no one else can, lakes, rivers and ponds too. Just an option.
Lets go soak a line. Pat
