Smile Yamaha Extended Service (YES) Contract

The manufacturers original warranty on my 50 hp two stroke Yamaha is expiring in a few days. I have received an offer for an extended warranty of 1 to 3 years. Cost ranges from $325 to about $600. Just wondering is anyone has any suggestions/experience of an extended warranty from Yamaha. I have not had any problems whatsoever with the motor so far and was just wondering if it is worth the money or should I just roll the dice so to speak. I know that outboard parts are very expensive, but it seems like the parts that are not covered such as water pump components and other normal wear and tear items would be out of my own pocket and would not be covered with the YES contract. Anyone have a recommendation or experience one way or the other. I still have about a week to decide if I want to buy the extended warranty. Thanks!!!!!
:D Bought too cheap and kept too long!!!!:D

If your motor is fuel injected and computer controlled, one repair on either system would probably over the $600.00 fee. I guess it depends on, " Do you feel lucky"? I had a F50 motor bought new in 07 and it was just sold by the second owner, and has never skipped a beat.

I have a pro v 150 1987 model and it has never skipped a beat, still starts and runs like new. I have never bought an extended warranty on anything, I feel confident nothing really happens in the first few years anyway especially an outboard that you don't use everyday and don't put that many hours on it- just my opinion I would roll the dice because they are banking on nothing happening to it the first three years also...

If you decide to purchase the extended warranty it may be worth your time to check prices with the dealerships.
In June I bought the Y.E.S. from my local dealer for $500.00 vs. $900.00 that the factory offered through the mail.
When I questioned whether the coverage was equal they explained that yes it was, they simply add an adminisrative fee to their cost rather than selling it at MSRP.
They issued me a temporary certificate and later the factory documents came in the mail from Yamaha.

rule of thumb . if they will warrenty it you most likely don't need it ! probally no more than 10% of what might happen woud be covered anyways .jmo .

I also have the same motor as Shermanator, a 1987 Pro V and it runs like new, if it says Yamaha it good as gold, I would put that money up and if you have trouble spend it then. Yamahas are the best if you ask me. mine has god knows how many hours on it, tournment fishing and lots of time with the old lady out.look on the mech. page and you see very little about Yamaha. I do use Yamalube oil and Stibil with this crap they sell for gas now a day.
