This was the gray fuel line sold at BPS with the ball installed. Replaced the entire line and ball and problem solved. Since then I haven't much faith in the gray line, but you folks say that the Mercury stuff is better than the rest? I used automotive line and figure that the ethanol will deteriorate whatever I buy and the days of fuel line lasting for many years are done and fuel line is now an expendable item. I haven't installed a separator yet but it's another item in my never ending list of things to do.
Skeet ... I had a '84 70hp Yammy on my previous boat. Replaced the gas line/bulb setup with on of the "grey" deals. Shortly thereafter ... I had to take the carbs off & have them cleaned (twice over a 2yr span). Problem - tiny pieces of rubber clogging the jets.

I'm installing a water seperator on my present boat, since it doesn't use a lot of gas & I don't go often enough to keep having to fill it back up. If the gas/bulb line should ever start to look like it's in need of replacement .... I'm going to my local Merc outfit & get the best OEM one available. Much cheaper to be proactive, IMHO !!

Forgot to add that I have the standard position filter between tank and ball and another under the cover. Hope this helps in letting me know if there's a problem. I'll let you know.

Just replaced my fuel line on my 1970 18 HP Evinrude. This motor is a true gem but have been having all sorts of trouble this last year with it. Clean the carbs three times and a new fuel pump then one day it just wouldn't start regardless what I tried. Took me a week of Sundays to figured out it was a air leak in the fuel tank. With a lathe and drill press I repaired the tank. And the Bulb pumped up tight the first time.

Guess what I am trying to say is Make sure that EVERYTHING is working good from the tank to the carb. Don't overlook any thing I could have gotten myself in a real pickle out on the lake five miles from home with no one around. I got lucky this time just hope my luck doesn't run out. Maybe I lead a charmed life??? Lols
