Default Oil leak on 25 hp mercury motor

I noticed oil had leaked from my 2000 model 25 hp mercury motor, The spot was about the size an old half dollar. The leak came from where the prop joins the motor.
I just changed the fluid in the foot about 2 weeks ago, and when I removed the top plug on the foot new looking fluid came out so it is not low on fluid.
The oil on the floor was very thick, just like what I used to fill it with, but it was very black and smelled a little like gas. Should I have any concerns or just feel it out for a while?

Its most likely just unburnt fuel. That is fairly common.

if you were doing a good bit of idling before you shut it off, that's what it is, oil from the fuel

When you pull the boat out of the water try letting the engine sit in the down position for a few minutes. I had the same thing. Barniclebill & dkeil are correct.
