i know am not the only one on here with a ranger.
it has the COOL hubs and i have been told there is a bubble that shows the level of the oil but after taking off the cover to where you can see the lug nuts i still see no bubble, the end of where normally a bearing buddy would be is what appears to be black plastic do i need to try to pry that out or what?
i just purchased this and i wanna make sure everything is as it should be.
google it and see what pops up. Not familiar with ranger trailers, may be a utube video about it as well.
GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
Pop that black rubber plug out and the oil should be at the bottom of the hole. That is how it is on my 07' Ranger Trail. Z21
i keep reading that i have to take the wheel off to put oil in it, and that there should be some type of clear window where i can see the oil level, z21 i think my black plug is plastic, i hate to pry on it if it isn't supposed to come out, i would love if someone could post a pic. though i would love it if all i had to do was pop that plug out, seems like taking the wheel off is alot of trouble to me.
My hubs on mine are clear see through plastic so you can see the oil level. Maybe the oil in yours is so dark it looks like black plastic. If thats the case you need to drian and put in new oil anyways. And yes they fill from the back side so the wheel has to come off.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.
Here's what I have on my Ranger Trailer - This is the owners manual from Tie Down. It describes the 3 different types of hubs & how to service them....

Ranger Cool Hubs 2010.m4v
I have a 2003 Rangertrail and this is the way I do it.
If the sight glass on the end of the hub is fully black it usually indicates that the hub is full of oil.

This is the first time that I have read about oil in the axle instead of grease. WOW,learn something new every day.
