I've never heard of that in any motor. Zero play is what I expect in that area. Just my opinion.
Went fishing yesterday in my Buddys boat has a 2011 60 HP Merc. engine was getting ready to luanch the boat , noticed that the prop could be moved in and out about 1/4 of an inch , I asked him about it , said he just got it back from the break in check up the shop said that was fine all 60 hp were that way ????? anyone else have been told that ??

Look in your manual I think it covers this. I will look in mine and see
Will check with my buddy , He got this rig in Orlando BPS , Hope he recieved a Manual .
RR - don't know if this helps any, or not .... but, on my old boat's 1984 70hp Yammy, which had a alum prop with it when purchased - I put a cut down SS Merc prop, that I bought from a guy that did that sort of thing. It came with a spacer shim, that went on the shaft before the prop ... but, still could be moved "in & out about 1/4 of an inch", even after the castle nut/cotter pin was put on. It worked fine for over 10yrs, and was still working just fine when I sold the outfit.
I'd go out & check my 1999 90HP Merc prop, to see if it "moves" any ... but it's too dang HOT/HUMID Rofl (which is the only reason I'm sitting here, and not out fishing Doh )

Most props move in & out some. Most people never check , they just spin em. The prop shaft will have to have a little play to shift. Your prop is tight it's the shaft that's moving a little. NORMAL!!!!!
We only sell the Best. Ranger, Xpress, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu.
Yes some play is normal. The important thing here is when the prop is pushed all the way in it should not hit the lower unit casing. There is a thrust washer that goes on ahead of the prop to prevent this.

You can't finish what you don't start
I know my 85 150 hp yammie hammer has only about 1/32 movement in and out @ 50 pounds torque on the prop nut. The shop that serviced the Tracker said that the 2011 60 hp merc's had a floating prop ???? and 1/4 inch is normal with these ??? That seems like a lot .
I have a 2010 90hp optimax my manual says prop should move about 1/8 in
