    Default Stability Question on crawdad

    Hey everyone,
I just bought a used mid 80's or so crawdad with a small deck in front. The previous owner fished off it and had no issues. I'm 6 feet and 185lbs, and he is probably about 20 pounds lighter than me and a bit shorter. The more I think about it, although I love the feature, it may be a little on the unsturdy side. I will not be able to test fishing off of it for a while as I have no transporation for it right now. In the mean time, should I plan on modifying this (maybe removing all or some of the deck, and adding another swivel seat up front like the one in back), or should I wait and see how it holds up with me fishing it?....I'm new to boats (currently fish out of a kayak) and any of your thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated.

I'd wait until I could get it on the water to see if you need to make any changes! Everything you do before that could be for nothing, it may be fine the way it is.

If your moving from a kayak, you will have plenty of stability, enough to do a dance on the front deck.

If it were mine, I'd remove the deck. I mean...what purpose does it serve? Is being 14" higher off the floor gonna make any difference? But mostly because it adds weight, and those boats were made for strapping in the back of a pick-up and heading to the pond/lake. Not knocking it, I love smaller boats for fishing calmer waters. Nice boat regardless of what you decide to do, hope you put lots of fish in it and have lots of good times!

Ditch the deck, it's to high which raises your center of gravity. If you do it will have far more stability. My son has one and thought a pedestal seat would be better for hunting, guess what, one trip and it was gone because it flipped over. He never had that problem before and said it was way to 'tippy'. The original seating puts part of your weight below the waterline.
