    Default Mercury 50hp alarm

An alarm went off while riding , I assume this is the overheat alarm ?

My water pump appears to work, water streaming out just fine....oil tank is plenty full.............

    any other thoughts??

would a blown fuse cause the alarm to trip?

I turned the key off and back on this morning ,( the day after ) and the alarm is still sounding??

My boat mechanic is three weeks behind so I do not have the ability to take the boat to a mechanic for now........

    any help would be appreciated

    thanks........

Default First thing to do is buy a manual.

Here is what the manual says for a Mercury 50HP.

    Situation One:
Problem: Warning Horn Stays On When Ignition Key is Turned to “ON” Position (Engine Cold).

Faulty Engine overheat sensor. If warning horn sounds a continuous “beep”, the engine
overheat sensor may be faulty. Disconnect tan/blue overheat
sensor lead at bullet connection. Turn ignition key to
“ON” position. If horn stops sounding, the engine overheat
    sensor is faulty.

    Situation Two:

Problem: Warning Horn Sounds (Continuous Beep) When Engine is Running and Oil Tank is Full.
Disconnect both low oil sensor leads (blue) at bullet connections.
Connect an ohmmeter between sensor leads.
There should be no continuity through sensor. If continuity
    exists, sensor is faulty

How old is the motor? Check to make sure your float in the oil reservoir has not become saturated. Causes it to sink giving an alarm.
    solution~~new oil reservoir.

Start it up on the ramp and let it run for a bit touch the side plate on the passenger side of the motor if its scalding hot shes cloged in the water jacket it will still look like its pumpin but she aint coolin, is the water comin out hot or just warm, have you ever drained the oil tank try that somtimes they sweat and the water will condinsate on the float. I believe the purple wire on the tank is the alarm wire.

will order another sensor......or oil tank......

You'll need a complete new oil tank. The problem is the float gets saturated and no longer floats.

While your at it change any sending tubes. These also break down after awhile.

might be cheaper to disconnect the oil tank and just mix the oil with the gas. Never any doubt about getting oil that way.

    Glad to be of service.

I would be interested to know, when your finished with the repair.
Can you replace just the sensor, or is a new tank required.

    Thanks
