if you wanted to do nothing but slow trolling, either pulling CB or maybe longlining with the 25, would be a good set up, but for getting on plane and running across the lake or up/down, the 25 may not even get it up on plane unless you had no weight in the boat. I have an 04 PT 175 with a 60 merc 2stroker. It runs very good imo, planes out pretty quick, how fast depends on what I do with the throttle. If I remember, tracker estimated top speed with my set up as 28mph +/-, but I used my gps last year and was around 32/33 if I remember correcty. Gas consumption is good imo, if I do run somewhere, 15 miles round trip, the guage moves but not much, and planed out, I'm turning about 4-4200 rpm's. Don't even remember ever going WOT as I just don't see any reason to do that. If you could trade both for a 60, would have a good set. The NEW tracker 175's come with a 60 now as standard, they show a price with a 40, but believe most people go with the 60 for overall performance.

    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

My 2 cents. I've got an Alumacraft MV1650 SC (16') with a Yama 50 4-stroke. With 2 big guys 2 ice chests, 3/4" wood floor and all gear, I get on plane at 13mph and top out at 34mph GPS. Since we sit all the way in back, I had to install some automatic trim tabs and they really really work! Used to take a while to get on plane without them. I only lost 2 mph after installing and rigging, but it was worth it. I also get 10.5 mpg (GPS odometer).

I have a 16'4" Starcraft/30hp Merc 4stroke, it has a 72" beam. With my wife & gear, it runs about 15mph. It won't plane unless she sets in front. It has a floor & step up to the front deck, so It's fairly heavy. The thing runs great, trolls great, uses hardly any gas, but seems slow to me.
