Check the float on the sending unit inside the tank,,,,if you can get to it. Fill the tank 1/2 full and adjust the sending unit up or down to read accurately. Simple to do, just another pain to have to mess with.
Well ran out of gas yesterday while my gas gauge showed 1/2 tank left. Anyone know if it's possible to repair this? Boat is a '96 Crestliner SC Fishhawk 1750. Thanx for any guidance anyone might be able to give. I asked the dealer years ago about the gauge on the boat when I ran out one day while showing 1/4 tank and he just said something like "naw, it's just a mechanical gauge, can't expect anything accurate" but to run out showing 1/2 tank I have now lost all confidence in it... HELP

Check the ground! Ive had problems with grd leads and had to run one to replace fractory grd.
Its a real simple circuit. 12V into the gauge then out to the sending unit. Then the float on the sending unit goes up and down with fuel level varying the resistence to ground. Its true they are not very accurate but you sure can get it closer than that. Personally I would rather have it accurate when its empty than run out of gas with the gauge still showing gas in the tank.
