Read through this thread. Fuel tank anti-siphon valve - The Hull Truth - Boating and Fishing Forum Seems lots of folks have had problems with the anti siphon valve. I'd remove it, then test the boat. If it's okay without the valve, I'd eliminate the anti siphon valve if your tank is below the motor fuel inlet.

I had a problem with mine,I wanted to eliminate it, the boat shop where i bought it said it could cause the motor to loose prime without it. The tank is lower than the engine so I guess it could. What are your thoughts. It would be a pain pumping bulb everytime you move. But then again there is a check ball in primer bulb.

Do all tanks have this valve? My tank has a quick disconnect at the tank and the motor. It's a Johnson...'97 model.

My 19 foot Starcraft doesn't have a anti siphon valve on it, and it's tank is below the floor. The bulb itself has it's own check valve to prevent it from losing prime.

Had a similar fuel problem with a new kicker 9.8 I bought a couple of years ago. motor would run good on a full tank only, after it got below 3/4full motor would stall out, it had loss its prime bulb was quite soft but not flattened out. Pump it up woul;d start & run for 15-20 min then stall out again. Took boat to dealer where I got kicker. Trouble was I was running motor on new plastic gas tank that came with motor & syphon tube in tank was cracked @ about 3/4 tank level, get below 3/4 level & it was sucking air out of tank. Gave me new tank & threw other in garbage as I stood there.
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.....

There is some kind of restriction between the bulb and the tank or the tank is not venting properly. The bulb con't suck flat if it was sucking air anywhere. You got something blocked or trash in a line somewhere. I bet you got something floating in the tank.

    My thoughts exactly rookie12

war eagle says that something obstructing the "pick up" in the tank is highly unlikely. i don't know if its the way the pick up line screen is constructed that makes it unlikely or what it is but i ask them to bench test a new a/s valve with the pinch-crimped fuel line attached and send it to me. i took the boat to an authorized yamaha dlr to pressure test it. that should also rule out a venting problem as well.
