    Question Repainting a motor

hey everyone i just got a motor and was going to try and repaint it. Its a mercury and i noticed that mercury makes a spray paint can that repaint back to the orginal black color. I was wondering if anyone has used this product before and if i need to buy special paint to cover the cowl? any help would be apperciated thanks

I'm not sure about the cowl but I have repainted a couple Mercs using the black engine enamel available at parts stores. It holds up very well and matches the original black. Seems to me it should work on the cowl too.

I have used the merc paint and it works well, but you want to make sure everything is very clean and use a zinc primer that will help it stay on longer

Wipe it with lacquer thinner first, sand the lower unit with 220 sand paper then use the thinner again. Zinc on any bare areas. Cowling ,,use fine sand paper 600 maybe then the thinner wipe before painting.
