weak fuel pump not keeping supply up with demand???
It is a 1996 Mariner it starts good and idles good but when i open it up it will run for about 400 yards and die as if i cut off the key, But it will start right back up and idle ok but when i open it up it will run about 300 to 400 yard and die again start back up good. I changed filter and added seafoam, hook water to motor and started it up and it started and run real good but didn't open it up. any suggestions.

First thing I'd do is run it off a portable tank with a new fuel line through to the fuel pump of the motor and a new primer bulb. That will tell you if the problem is with the motor itself, or the boat fuel supply system.
If that is a Merc Mariner with the square type fuel pump, I have a TSB on that problem. The TSB gives detailed instructions for testing but the bottom line is rebuild the fuel pump. The problem is with the pump's check valves. The kit from Merc included new style check valves and costs about $22.00

rebuild the fuel pump and try to find some fuel without the ethanol. I have had to rebuild mine 2 times because of the ethanol..

Yeah, that is one of the very few confirmed ethanol problems. The original check valves have rubber rings on the outer edge and ethanol causes the rings to curl up and not seal well. The new style is just a piece of flat plastic type material. I don't know if other manufacturers include the new type check valves or not but I know Merc does for sure.
