The brown, orange, moaroon, red, what ever it looks like is from the additives. If you won't to be techy their enzyenes. When you pull the fuel line, the motor stops. The last of the oil and fuel is left in the block. Take of your head and you'll see. If not over time you'll gaud a piston or ring. Its law of gravity. When you leave the fuel line on over a period of time without disconnect, even if the tank is vent it cause leaks and corrosion. After 39 years of doing this I' bet on it.

I know what your saying about the gas is 100% correct. Pure unleaded gas is clear like water, and when it evaporates leaves no residue (varnish). Leaded fuels were notorious for varnish. Todays fuels are full of different additives, esp when they mix in ethanol. Ethanol won't blend with pure unleaded gas, it has to have other additives, and the ethanol blends with them. Every gas company has it's own blend of gas, kinda like whiskey huh, Shell, Conoco, BP, whatever, and their additives are put in the gas when the tanker truck fills up. All fuel depots receive pure unleaded gas, this is how they control winter and summer gas, it also gives them a longer 'shelf life'.

Well after reading 11 pages on this topic. I have come to believe that I must be 1 lucky man. My Yamaha 4 stroke will be 11 years old in a couple of months. Not one time have I ever used sea foam or stabil. Motor still runs just as good as it did in 2001. My Yamaha dealer told me to burn nothing but Premium gas in it. So that is what I have done. Never winterized it either. It does stay in a heated garage. Not sure how I got so lucky.
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

I use the marine Stabil in my boat motor and all my small engines.

i mix 17oz of synthietic penzoil, 1 ounce marvel mystery, and 2 ounces of stabil to 6 gallons of high test. my ol 1976 75hp evinrude fires right up.

i put the stabil in my lawnmower to along with the 93 octane, the difference around here from 87 to 93 is about 28 cents a gallon, small price to pay for better quality. though i run 89 in my truck.

Premium already has the most and best additives in it, which is one reason a lot of auto mechanics recommend only running Premium. Then there is also the ethanol issue as well.

i didn't think outboard manufactures say to run premium in their outboards. stabil and seafoam and no problems. and more than is called for too.

I don't think they do either. I have lived all over the US though, and the automobile maintenance advice guys on the radio on the weekends always recommend it in cars, even though auto manufactures say to use the lower octane fuels. The talk radio mechanics advise that the additives in Premium justify the cost. Not sure boat mechanics would agree or disagree.

Your luck is in the price of your fuel. If it works, don't fix it. As everyone has heard--
    1. Premium Fuel. Non Ethanol if available.
    2. Ring Free or Sea Foam, both stabilize as well.
    3. Stabil if you don't run your engine often, or you store fuel in your tank, and for sure the last tank of the year, if you don't drain it, and you should.
