That is a barrier layer to keep the hose from permeating (thank you EPA). It is not suppose to do that and according to the manufacturer you are using the wrong size fitting.
Is this stuff any good? It seems when i put a fitting in itit has a thin plastic coating inside that trys to peel off. I chamfered the edge with a razor blade but it still does it. Any suggestions?

I got it to work had to chamfer more. The main problem was the primer bulb, Mercury makes the same for 5/16 and 3/8 line. Is it a good fuel line though?

This is "good" fuel hose and is the only fuel hose that you can buy now. But if you don't match the correct size fuel hose to your outboard and with all of the fittings, you can cause damage to the fuel pump, fuel injectors or worse the power head. Sierra does make this hose in both 5/16" and 3/8". Make sure the fitting at the tank, primer bulb and fitting at the motor are all the same size. If you have to cut or chamfer the hose, you have the incorrect hose.
The only problem was with the primer bulb. Mercury only had one that was good for 5/16 or 3/8. My line was 5/16 but it went ok. I was just wondering if this was good line or not. The boat dealer said it was all they used but thet have been known to lie. Thanks.
