+1 on tach. A must to do right.
As for prop to pad u must have set right to get proper measurement. Find level parking lot...like walmart...take trailer off truck....then u can use jack to level boat....take ur level and put on bottom pad of boat...this is the lowest part of hull closest to transom...once level u must level cavitation plate. Once both r level take a straight edge much like u did before. measure between plate and pad. I wud not go any higher...you must be careful... Ur water intake screen may look fine going straight but may come out of water in turns and lose suction. If u get it all lvel and take measurment and are between 2 and 3 inches don't. Go higher. Snds like the guys with experience with ur setup are saying lower pitch...find sum props and experiment. Man this topk a while...on wifes BlackBerry lol. Let us know ie level measurement.

Do a search for a "tiny tach" if you don't want to install one on your dash. Can't see the pic, but agree you're running too much prop and even before everyone else replied with motor height questions, that was going to be my suggestion.
I've got a hydraulic jackplate on my boat and you'd think you'd normally run it all the way down for best hole shot, but it actually like the motor half way up. Conter intuitive, I know.

I would go with atleast having the cavitation plate even with the bottom of the hull, the manufacturer suggest this. It's when you go higher is when you have to be careful and even then you have some wiggle room.Originally Posted by Scrapper

I'm betting the pitch is way too much. If the pitch is too high it puts some serious strain on the internals. I'd get a cheap tach to be sure, wouldn't wan't to wear out that pretty motor prematurely.

Opps...lol...u right...been a while since I setup a boat...3 to 4'' above pad...over 4'' is getting high. I like between 3 and 4 inches above not below pad...wow I need some rest...I'm off .y game...lol. You are a good 3 inches to low....Sry for misinformation. I'm really off my a game. Lol.....sheesh. It will help to go up....nd of u can swing the tilt and ttim setup will help u a lot! Plus you'll be in cleaner water. Sorry bout that.

MY vote is that you're a bit low and tilted in a bit too much. My 16' Lund had a 35, but the decavitation plate was at the same level as the bottom of the boat, and worked best when tilted back a notch from straight up and down. Good luck and keep us posted.
