Motor is for sure low....looking at pic I'd guess 6" or better. Smaller # pitch for holeshot. Too low will allow engine to rev over redline. I have had great with 4 blade ss props. Used to run one on a 200 Rude/20' Startos...my avatar image actually.

13 pitch is too much. as stated four blades are the way to go id say about a 10 if you fish with buddies maybe 11 if you fish alone also after market tilt and trim units help with angle ang give some set back and height adjustment.

OK went out and checked height of motor this morning. I have been wrong many, many times in my 56 years I always thought cavitation plate to bottom of the boat to be level or just a little lower but not higher than the bottom of the boat. Looks less than 2" lower, is this right? and would that have much effect?

Sorry.....it just did not look that close in the other pictures. I raised my motor up one set of bolt holes ( about 1 inch ).....I gained 4 mph and come out of the hole a lot better now.

I also own same year of motor only mine with power trim. I can tell you from my experiences to drop to the 9.5 pitch prop Mercury offers for this motor. And from the pictures, you need to raise one set of holes on motor height. Hope this helps!

Get your cavitation plate even with the bottom of your boat and see what happens. I really suggest getting a tach so you can see how far off of top rpm's you are. That would give you a better idea of what pitch prop you need if raising the motor doesn't help.
