Default Mercury 75 4 stroke problem

I have a 2005, 17 foot Triton with a 75 four stroke. I'll run up the lake and fish for a couple of hours and when I crank it back up,it will smoke, like a two stroke. After a few trips to the lake,it starts running like it's not running on all cylinders. It starts cutting down on power and it will go back and forth(run normal, then it will go back to running like it's not running on all cyl.) .I've took it to the sports center parts in perry Ga and they run all the test on it.They do compression test and others and tell me nothings wrong. I will take the spark plugs out and they will have a fair amount of oil on them.I clean the plugs and reinstall them and the motor, will run normal until I need to clean the plugs again.Has anyone had any trouble with a fourstroke or can someone tell me why my motor is doing this and what can I do to fix it?

Are you sure the motor has the correct plugs, and have you replaced them, or just cleaned them?

i am a marine mechanic,i have seen this alot in the four strokes.9 times out of ten all you need is new spark plugs.these motors go thur sparkplugs alot quicker than a 2 stroke.if you run alot at idle speeds expect to replace the plugs twice a year.so my advice is change the plugs and run the motor.good luck.if this does not clear up the issue, send me a pm and ill try to help you out with some other things to check. mark

Yes,I replaced the plugs with the same exact kind I took out.I have replaced the plugs two or three times.I will replace them again. At times,I do,do alot of idealing, before I start fishing..Do you know what makes it smoke so bad when I do ideal around and then start back up?Thanks.

You could try a shock treatment of SeaFoam. SeaFoam is a fuel additive that is available at autoparts stores and even Walmart. A shock treatment would involve a portable gas tank, 1 gallon of gas, and 1 pint of SeaFoam. Start your engine on this mix and run it at high idle for about 15 minutes. Then shut the engine down and let it sit for 15 minutes. After sitting, then go out and run it like a scalded dog. If necessary, repeat the procedure. It will decarbonize the motor and also clean the fuel system. Be advised to do this on off hours at the lake, because it can create a lot of smoke during the treatment. LOL!

I believe Seafoam is mainly for 2 stroke motors.

Change your oil and spark plugs minnow, make sure you use a good quality oil of the motor manufacturers recommended weight. You may even want to consider using a synthetic oil.

I've noticed my 4 stroke starts to smoke a little when it needs an oil change, and it's probably due to viscosity breakdown.

    .
NOT!! run SEAFOAM in anything that runs on gas. Put it in your lawn mower car motorcycle, heck I even have it in the tank on my generator. Great stuff. JMO

I run the manufacture, mercury oil in the motor. I might try some syn.oil in it.I changed it not to long ago.The oil looks brand new,on the dip stick.
