    Default 1448/25 Four Stroke

Anyone running a 1448 John boat with a 25 hp four stroke or heavier motor? I have a Four stroke Suzuki and would like to put it on a 1448 or do I need to go to a 1648? The weight of the motor is the issue. My motor weighs 152 pounds. The 1448 is rated at 25 hp but will a four stroke be too heavy for it.

Does the boat have a 15" transom, or a 20' transom? I imagine it is tiller steer, so your weight will be in the back also. You would probably need to have your battery and gas up forward at least. The 48 has a wider beam, which should help. Think of it this way, what's the difference between a 100 pound motor and a 250 pound operator, and a 150 pound motor and a 200 pound operator? Now if you are a jumbo 300 pounder, you might want to go to that 16 footer.

i have a 1648 with a four stroke merc...the butt end of that boat even sits a lil low in the water so i would watch putting it on a 1448 with a tiller...mine is stick steer so im not sittin right in the back but i do have 3 batterys and a 6gal tank in the back...its up to you but i would spend the 300-500 more and go with the 16 foot boat...they also have better resale then a 14 also

I would go with a 16' for sure. You will enjoy the extra space.

I run a 1452 with a 40 Yamaha tiller and have a CMC PT 130 tilt and trim unit on it too. Plus me, 200lbs, 6 gal. fuel, battery and it does fine. Boat has 20" transom.
