Thread: Need motor help!!

Buddy has a 93 40 horse Johnson with lift problems. He wants to lift the leg to add lub to the tilt motor but the manual release won't unlock. Is this the only release for the leg (it is located at the top of the transom on the port side of the motor) or is there a trick to releasing the leg? Any help would be really appreciated. He just bought the motor and doesn't know much about the motor (and I don't know anything about outboards). Thanks for any hel,

put the motor in forward, should be able to lif it manually then. it will not lift manually if in neutral
