A few pictures of this trip between the rain squals. Second picture shows the spot where I was on them good before the go pro fiasco. 15 feet deep on the edge of a brushpile.
Hit the River this morning for another trip. Cloudy skies as I left the house torrential rain when I arrived at the ramp. Went to my new spot and like I always do got stuck there. Picked 3 fish in two hours before I woke up and realized they werent there. Finally remembered to take my own advice and keep moving until I found them I quick hit 3 spots from the past that have produced with no luck. Moved to a 4th and got over them good. Put 4 10inch fish in the cooler in about 15 minutes when I got the brilliant idea to drop my gopro down on a string to get a movie of the school. Well guess what? I spooked the school! Caught another 10 fish in the general area but no keepers. Kept fishing and picking at them in different spots for another 2 hours and ended with 45 fish on the clicker not including a bass and a pickerel but only those 4 crappie in the cooler. Lessons learned, if your not marking fish and catching in 15 minutes move, even if its only 100 feet. And if you have a gopro dont drop on the heads of the fish your trying to catch.

Zippy, are you using a marker buoy at the brush piles? Usually if I am marking structure when striper fishing I create a waypoint. When I drift off the spot, I end up doing 10 360s around the waypoint till I find the structure again because my GPS is lagging my position...can be frustrating, and a little embarrassing sometimes!
Yes, gave up on setting waypoints for the same reason. When there is little current or wind I can usually line up with a point on the shore and use my trolling motor to stay over it without a bouy. Eventually I will drift off just from walking around the boat and have to start searching again. If there are lots of fish I will drop a buoy on a far edge realizing that the brush sits behind it. Then vertical jig if its deeper than 10 feet or stand off and use a 12 foot crappie rod to jig it if its shallower.
Nice catch Zippy. Part of the fun is figuring them out.
