Black Friday was a nice day. Caught 40 in my usual spots. Time to pick your brain again. Are you fishing over wood or just on bottom out of the current? I have gotten to the point that a 30 - 50 fish day isnt out of the question but most are small, a few are keeper sized but very few are like the fish you guys get. Where are the bigger fish hiding, i catch thm when they go shallow in the spring but have a hard time locating them in winter.

Thanks, thats what I was thinking. I have put two days in since asking and think I have figured it out. Went out today and caught 45 crappie, 2 monster bluegills, a yellow perch and lost a pickerel at the boat. Caught the crappie over sunken wood in 10 - 15 feet of water, on the downstream side of a shoal or hump. At least 20 of the crappie were between 10 and 13 inches. Really excited to be on the right path. I was getting tired of catching dinks.

I have a humminbird 898 hd/si. Use the down imaging split with sonar to cruise with the trolling motor and hold a bouy over the side. When I pass over something interesting Ill drop a bouy a few feet up from the edge than stand off and cast to it. The retrieve is more of a pendulum just hold the rod tip high and let the bait swing towards the boat. New electronics are awesome, you should upgrade. Its amazing what they can do.

Thanks for all your posts and help over the last year. The puzzle of tidal crappie was driving me nuts, relieved im on the right track. Now ill be hit with the 35 degree water puzzle in mid January where im sure my new found knowledge will fail me again.
