    Default Back to crappie

Finally got back to some good crappie fishing this weekend after all the hunting and speckle trout fishing. Me and g-guck went fri nite to one of our old nite spots and got 29 real nice ones 11 to 13 in. on slow fished jigs in total darkness . We went out sat. morn and got 32 more up to 14 in. most of them slow trolling hot lure seemed to be 2 1/2" fin-s in smelt color on 32nd oz. head .Sunday took son to turkey shoot and he won a 19lb. turkey shooting against the ole heads with the real long guns.Name: 100_1629.jpg

Nice.........once I do retire next year I'm comin over your side the bridge and follow you around.

I noticed your reports last year about using the 2.5" fin-s and I picked some up on my trip to Florida this past March and can tell you they work up here also. Most all my crappie this year have come on either the new yamiminnow I found or that 2.5" Alewive Fin-s. I also use the 1/32oz, but have been experimenting with a drop-shot too.

We drop shot some but when we fish a double jig its almost the same we tie the top one on a small loop knot and catch most on the top jig . mostly do that in rivers. Also I never use a painted jig head always the plain ones I pour 1/16th and 1/32nd.

Crappie can be caught in all 12 monthes you have to change your tactics a bit thru the year is all. I salt water fish more in warm weather but in 2012 just to see I went crappie fishing in july and august and got em so I got crappie in all 12 monthes . the spring is the easiest catching but fall and winter are good too just find open water in winter

Thanks, I'm trying to get out there to find them I just don't have anyone to learn from around here so I make a lot of newbie or dumb questions. Say I want to catch them in the Potomac or any river near Me and asked about it on another forum, not one person gave Me a tip on where to drop the boat at, makes Me feel like the experienced ones there only post to show off with their buddies rather than coach someone who really wants to learn not just asking for a single fishing spot.
