Ever try bull minnies, there pretty rugged, i dont fish for crappie with them often but they work fine and the ones i have in my aquarium eat em like there candy. there pretty easy to keep alive in a aquarium as long as you keep them out of the filter and and too many of them like maybe 40 or 50 in a 55 gal tank.

Yes I have tried them. They are tough to kill but do not have the flash and size my bait does. Big bait = big crappie
Today I changed the water again and removed another 2 dozen dead ones. Think I got the water right now...

They make it the next two trips and I will start all over with a fresh tank on next Friday. Spare no costs for the clients..

Heck I may even break even in the long run..

my only other suggestion is to get an circulater which either sits on top of a stand pipe from an undergravel filter or can hang independently from the side of the tank and it creates a constant current in the tank, some fish fair better with constant current. i never kept shiners in a tank but just thinking out loud. their not that expensive either.

Your 100% correct on the current thing.. The living stream is perfect for that reason.
Mine has current in a circular pattern with no corners to bunch up in.

Checked just now and lost maybe 6 fish. Good to go till next week. I have ten days in row booked..
