Never been in an Xpress, but have seen a few blow by me. Definitely a fast boat. I have a 90 2-stroke Yamaha and love it.
Xpress boats have a very good reputation. I don't think you would regret it. By the way how do you like your Etec?

If you're fishing rocky rivers, defanately go with a boat that has a thicker gauge aluminum (.125)
You may want to look at these here. Home
I bought a War Eagle 17'7 with a 60hp 4stroke Merc and love it. It will take you whereever you need to go from stumpie lakes to wide open water. I like to say it can take you to h**** and back. Arkansas game and fish use these boats which is good enought for me. Xpress and great boats as well. I have heard you can't go wrong with either of these.

Xpress are really nice boats and Yamahas are good engines.
I looked hard at the Xpress when I was shopping last year but needed something with a little more open floor plan for a dual purpose hunting and fishing rig.
I wound up buying an aluminum Triton (17') with a pad hull like the Xpress hyper-lift.
My boat will run 50mph with a 90hp Merc.
I definitely don't think performance would be an issue with that Xpress.
We're on our second Xpress, both have had Yamaha motors. We've never had a problem with the Yammie and wouldn't go back to Merc or Evinrude. The ride is great - it's definitely not your daddy's old tin boat ride. The hyperlift hull makes a big difference.

Yes, I fish like a girl. If you tried a little harder, you could too!!
I have a 2003 Lowe 175 with a 70 hp 2 cycle Yamaha. I bought it this spring from a family friend. The boat is rated for a 115 hp. I am a big proponent of putting the largest motor the boat is rated for...HOWEVER this motor will push the boat with two people and gear just over 40 mph with a small amount of throttle and trim left.
I have a coworker that has a 188 Ranger with a 150 hp Yamaha 4 cycle. It is very quiet and performs very well on the boat.
I think you would be very happy with a Yamaha motor.

I bought a Xpress hyper lift HD51 in 95 new with a 75 horse Yamaha. I a good run of luck. It got lot of marks on it from geting to close to stumps, limbs, and trees fishing Millwood lake.
I have a X-17 Express with a 115 Mercury and I love it. If I had it to do over I would get a 18 or 19ft. More room for trolling poles.
