Hey Chef, just wanted to take a moment to thank you for my "crappie tree" attractor. My wife will really enjoy jig fishing the "crappie tree" as she gets so aggravated when she hangs up in the brushpiles.

    Thanks again!

Thanks J&J Habitat. I thought that I had missed out on the free habitats, but I came home yestarday and my wife said that I had a large box on the porch. I got it, opened it, low and behold a fish attractor. Nice product and well packaged. I must say that I can't think of many companies that would ship free products to a number consumers as you all did. I have to tip my hat to ya.

    Thanks again.

She really enjoyed the day but I wanted to get back home to see how your product was designed etc. I got back home and found that one of the plastic packing tubes had a hole in one end. Also the small plastic sack that contained the plastic pins was opened all along the bottom of the sack. To make a long story short I only got 5 of the plastic pins. I was wondering if I could find out where I can get some replacement pins. Do you see them?
I can put the crappie tree back together without them as I can alway take my portable drill out in the boat and shoot some sheet metal screws into the side pieces after they are inserted in the larger pipe. The heads on the sheet metal screws will hold the smaller pipes in place. But I like your design better as it's easier to assemble the pieces out in the field without taking a portable drill. I don't want to accidently drop my new Dewalt 18volt portable drill and the battery into the lake. That would be a disaster. I use my older 12volt B&D drill on the other Trees I assmembed last year on the lake but that drill has since had a battery go bad and the battery destroyed two battery chargers before I realized what was going on. Now I have to replace one of the batteries for that unit along with replacing the battery charger again.

That is why I like the plastic pin design. I did receive 5 of those pins and was able to dry fit two of the pipes in place. I think your idea of pre drilling those holes in the smaller pipes is an excellent idea.

I am still puzzled as to why the pipes that I receive appear different than the pictures in the brosure. I think I know what you were doing when you first built the trees in the pictures. I am thinking you were using a larger diameter pipe that fit over the smaller pipe. Then I think you cut off short pieces of the larger diameter pipe and use them to hold the smaller diamter pipe in place. In the pictures it appears that there is a larger pipe snugged up right next to the larger tree truck and over the smaller branch pipes. I bet you glued those onto the top of the smaller pipes in order to keep the branch pipes from sliding out. I was thinking that you had a special tree trunk make with lots of "T" fittings coming out of it. But I think I know now how you did that. I would call them collars maybe. I know that the outside diamter of your branchs in the crappie tree are 1 3/8 OD and 1 1/2" ID. And the larger pipe is 3" ID. I was wondering how you sold them at the price you are now.

The PVC crappie trees I made were made from longer pipes and longer branches.

I don't ever plan to sell them but I do plan to make some more of the type that I made earlier and put them in the small lake that I fish. I can't use them at Patoka as there is just too much other wood cover there. But on some of the small lakes I fish that are devoid of natural cover these pvc crappie trees will hopefully bring in some fish.

Now I just need to figure out a way to bring up the two trees that I put in the lake last year that are not working. They were put in too deep of water and I am afraid that they also fell over on their sides. I was intending for them to stand upright. I need to pull them out of the water and put some foam in the top of them and then cap the top to keep the foam from floating out the top of the 4" pipe. That will add to the cost of making them but I am thinking it will make them stand straight up off the bottom where they hopefully will work better at attracting fish.

I guess what I would like to know is where or how can I get about 20 more of those small plastic pins?

Any help you can provide would be appreicated. I was going to call the DHS delivery guy and ask him to check is delivery truck for the missing pins but the storm we had today knocked out my phone line again. Every time we get over an inch or rain my telephone line to my house goes dead.

Sorry about the plastic bags, they usually work pretty well. I'll send you
some more clips. the only place i know to buy them retail, is at true value
hardware stores, but they are awfully expensive there. i buy several. at a
time and get a pretty good price. You are pretty preceptive. Yes we
changed our design. i was using a 3 inch pipe with a 1 inch hole
drilled in it. i then screwed in a pvc socket, and the limb went into the
socket. the limb had to be glued. that design worked pretty well, but
took a lot of labor to assemble, then we came up with the clip idea. I think
the new design is more solid. we are also looking at using rubber o rings.
so far that looks like a pretty good idea. we are in the process of changing
our brochures and web site with up to date pictures of the products. i didnt forget to post an answer, i just hit the wrong button. the computer is
not my best friend. on the pvc attractors you are using, you might fool around with the placement of the bottom two limbs on the attractor.,
they will go a long way in keeping the attractor standing up, and not
falling over if you get them positioned properly. if there is anything else
i can do, let me know and you should get a couple of bags of clips in
a few days. we had several requests for free samples and
are still behind on some of the shipments, but we'll get it done, hopefully
    this weekend.

    best regards
    chef

thanks, be safe and good luck on the water

i could never get 4" pipe to not fall over, thats why we went to 3"

I appreciate your help. I have been talking about your product on the Fishin.com web site. Someone asked about crappie attractors and I sent him your way. He never heard of the PVC pipe Crappie Condos. I am sure that many others on the Indiana Fishin.com web site will also read that post and be curious about your product.

I'll check out true value hardware down here and see if they carry any of those pins.

I can't afford to buy too much pvc pipe as it is now so I won't need too many more pins for any extra trees that I may build

If the pipe didn't cost me so much here in Evansville I could build a few more trees on my own. Right now I am planning on using some 3 or 4 gallon plastic containers that I got from my bait shop guy and filling them with some cut down brush and concrete. I may sink them in some nearby lakes and see how they do. I can get plenty of these old squash plastic containers that are about the right size. they are square in shape but deep enough to hold some concrete and weight down some brush. I don't have any bamboo around here that I can find so I will have to use what brush or small trees I can scrub. up

I figured you hit the button too soon. I have done that a few times myself. Sometimes when I am typing in the Title section on here I press the enter button and it completes the post before I am ready. If you are typing in the main message section in here and hit the enter button it just does a carrage return and puts you on the next line at the left of the row. But when you do that while in the title section it thinks you are done typing the post and send it out before you are done.

Thanks again for the reply and the pins. Take your time mate. I am not in a big hurry to get them. I was really surprised that the free samples came today. I was not expecting them so fast. LOL

Glad you stopped using the pvc sockets to help cut the cost and the time involved. I have an extention for my circle saw that allows me to saw all the way though the 4". But after I drill the first hole I have to back the hole saw out of the hole and remove the plastic from inside the hole saw. Then I can make the next hole on the other side of the pipe. The extention thing is about 8" long and it helps keep the holes alligned. The guy Missouri talked about drilling the holes in the pipe at an angle to make the cross pipes stay in place. I have yet to figure out what he meant by that. What angle? I am going to have to play with some more pipe and drill the holes at different angles to find out exactly what he did. right now I use sheet metal screws to hold the cross pipes in place. I'll take some close up pictures of how I do that and try to remember to scan them and post then in here for you all to see.

i tried cutting holes at an angle and putting pipe in the large sections
like the guy at lake of the ozarks, almost killed myself. i could get
about one in three of the holes lined up and the large ten foot pipe
was more than i could handle by myself.
