That is the one i have doc(mine has a grey case, probably just older model). Like i said before, the a/c converter doesnt power the knife the way it should, very slow, and bogs down easliy. A good charged trolling battery or car battery, and that knife will eat fish!
As above, you dont go around the ribs, just straight through them. thats the real beauty of the knife, you exert very little engery to cutting, since the blades are sawing anything in there way. A have cut up big catfish like this, and other than minor resistance, it'll cut right through them. I have never found a need for the smaller set of blades, even small gills and crappies are easier with the 7 inch blades(might just be me)
If you do get one, be prepared to cut through the back bone, cut fish in half and other such things when ya first start using it, it can get away from you.

It fillets the skin of of the flesh very well, almost as good as a standard knife.
Like i said before, i normally use mine for larger catches, or if i cleaning fish for multiple people. I can whip through them purty fast with a normal fillet knife, but it can take a the work out of cleaning a large catch.

it does cut your time significantly and it actually helped me do a better job in filleting the meat and not butchering the meat up when cleaning the fish. well worth the money I spent.

    Thumbs up Bluegill

I'll stand by the Rapalla 100% till some other company comes out with a 6" blade. I go straight through the ribs and completely remove the fillet w/skin. Turn the fillet, catch the knife under the thickest part of the rib cage and follow up under it and it will flip right out. Then fillet the meat off. 30 sec. to one min. depending on skill.
You need at least a couple fingernails for this method.

Thanks HB you should be a salesman for you sold me and I picked one up at a very good price or I hope it was anyway. Will have it next week just in time for vacation, think it will be nice to fillet them out at the lake instead of back at the house,

We shall see and NO I wont post any pic's of my first attempt with it, that might just be to UGLY to show anyone.

Doc, I have a Electric Filleting knife and I don't like it. I like the old fashion way to fillet fish. A good sharp fillet knife made in Sweden. Using a Electric Knife you cut out the ribs with your Electric knife. Then you have to remove the ribs later. Electric knife is knot my ball of wax.

I cleaned 50 crappie today on our boat with the American Angler 12 volt model, as stated in other posts it got a little warm but performed great. I probably had 1 hour total cleaning time, And yes this model riciprocates slower but if you dont horse it your fine. Replacement blades are easy to get....plus their made in Arkansas so please support our USA made products as well.

Here is a couple of my videos of how I fillet with a regular knife...I never made the move to a electric. I can clean a crappie in just over a minute ...mabe less once I get warmed up.

My wife has been on me to buy an electric filet knife for a couple of years. You all convinced me and I just ordered a Rapala Proguide Deluxe Electric Filet Knife Set from SportsmansGuide.com. Hopefully it will be here before we leave for a three day weekend trip on Thursday afternoon.

    Thanks for the input everyone.
