You Have to wonder what the max fine is. People like that could pay $500.00 and go right back to it. 4000 lbs is a lot of fish and probably ( i'm guessing worth a couple of thousand dollars). Takes a BIG fine to discourage some folks.
Netters are protected on the Tennessee River. Cut a net, and you can go to jail and pay a fine for messin with a mans livelihood. One of the visiting Bass pro's found that out a couple of years ago. I do wish they would outlaw them here.

Probably comes down to the laws in that state and the judge. I know here you get caught with crappie that are under size and I think it's $125 per fish. Using a gill net could be bad news for them I would think.

The gill nets are good for removing rough fish that eat gamefish eggs and compete for water resources. Here they use them to catch fish most sportsfishers don't want. Don't condeme commerical fishermen where gill nets are legal. They don't catch Crappie as mesh min size to large. They have to make a living too. Would hate for you to get caught messin with their livelyhood.
