Depending on what size motor he has and what size live well he puts in. That is adding a lot more weight up on the front and he will notice the difference when trying to get up on plane. If it isn't in the center of the boat he may have to adjust his trim tab also. EB

I have a 90hp merc. There is a hatch in the same spot as in the 17, it just looks like it wasn,t finished, right behind the front seat post. The only problem to me is making hatch water tight and getting water to and from live well.

I have a Tracker 18 all fish/90hp that does have a livewell right behind the seat post. I dont notice much if any difference in handling when it is full of water. This is a mod-V so maybe that has something to do with it. I havent had to worry about there being too much fish weight in there though! Cant say it is watertight cause it will slosh out if full while not on plane. It is not very user-friendly--it would be better if it opened from the front with a simple latch to keep it shut when on the big pully or towing. Have to pretty much get out of the seat and off the platform to open & toss in fish, but maybe yor layout is better. My being old and fat may be part of the problem. Something to think about if you install one.

I would not even consider a crappie rig without a reachble livewell from the fishing seat. When handling 6 to 8 poles there is no timeto get up and put fish in the rear livewell.

I know about the old and fat. Has a whole lot to do with everything.
