I'm usin' MR. Crappie hi-vis yellow, 6lb right now. If I can ever find some of that Gammo Co-polymer hi-vis, I'm gonna get me a couple of those reels. BPS and Cabella's don't stock the hi-vis right now. May have to order it online.

Great site here! Looking forward to learning a lot and maybe sharing a few things along the way. As far as this thread goes, I must be missing something(?). I've never used anything heavier than 4# test mono (usually XL) on my 6' UL rod and 2# test on my 7' Sam's SuperSensitive. I mainly cast 1/16 - 1/32 oz. jigs with these rods and have caught a lot of crappie over the years. Some as much as 2 1/2 lbs.. I don't see the reason to go up in weight? Maybe some of you folks are fishing in heavy timber....I don't know? In any case, this works for me.

My regular overall line is BPS Excel in 10 lb. test. For my Ultra-lite I've always used Berkley Trilene in 6 lb test. Now there's been a bunch of threads here on CC about different kinds of line and I've been watching them. Might even be convince to try some depending on costs.

I use a Cabela's 12 or 14 lb. high vis line that I think is copolymer (sp?) in most of my fishing which is in oxbow lakes with stained water dropping down in a lot of heavy brush, fishing with a bobber and minnow. I use the 8 lb. same line if I'm fishing jigs.

I've used any and all and they all have there good points and bad points. I recently bought some Vicious Panfish 4# line. I like it, it is strong and limp. The first fish I caught on it was a 7# bass. Now that was fun. I must say light line requires good tackle. You need a very smooth drag, eyes that are hard and smooth, a pole that is forgiving and a light touch from you. No horsing around. And you've gotta know how to tie a knot.

Have to go with Budman, been using Excel 4&6# since Shakespeare quit making USA-1 line.
