Ahhh, back in 83 we were all riding the gravy train of Jimmy Cater, Surely Reagan had had not plenty of time to reduce regulations of EPA matters to have had an effect. Jimmy Cater killed those fish.

But it sure does make me wonder what caused these deformaties. Also makes me wonder where all the honey bees went a few years ago. They almost vanished from my area. Some suspect it was a bee mite infection that wiped out a lot of the honey bees. But then it could also be due to the fact that many homeowners spray chemicals on their lawns to kill the weeds. This may also have the unattended result of killing the honey bees too.

    Default accordion catfish?

Way back when I used to tightline minnows at night, I used to catch
quite a few blue cats up at Pickwick - caught a couple about 1-2 lbs
one summer that looked like you had stretched them out like a rubber
band and let go - or else had a head on collision with something at high
speed. Their tail section had really tight crooks in it "S" curves 3 or 4
real tight together. Have any of you seen that? While I'm at it, how
about bass with what looks like little black pieces of gravel or something
hard embedded in their tail - right about where you stop cutting with a
filet knife and turn it back. I have seen this so much that I no longer
eat bass - it looks nasty! Quite a few of the crappie I catch have what
looks like a tumor or something on one of their fins or tails, sort of "grainy"
looking- maybe the water is so clear they're getting skin cancer?
Bye the way, the bass thing I mentioned, I just started seeing this about
the same time the "largemouth bass" virus thing started around here -
possibly this is some sort of effect of the virus?

Tell the truth now Darryl. You made that poor 'ole Green Carp look that way by beating him off of your Crappie Jig on the side of your boat railing! :D

BTW - I read somewhere to always take any Bass you catch far off of your brush piles before releasing them. They supposedly will return to that same spot otherwise, and run off your slabs.

I don't know if that is true or not, but sounds to me like it could be true from your record with this Quazi Moto of a Green Carp Darryl! :p

Seriously though, I don't know what caused that fish's defects, but his future looks bleak at best. Hope that doesn't become common down there for you guys! Big bites, and no radio-active fish for ya's!

Fished the same spot the past couple of days and didn't catch ole George. May have kept him out of the water too long when taking the pic.

Jerry tells me that some like that are a result of being injured at a young age by gar or stripers, while others are a result of a damaging struggle out of the egg when hatched. Both are conceivable to me.

Either way, where oh where are you tonight (George) . . .
