Those cheap Black and Deckers from Wal-Mart seem to be fine. If I have a lot of fish I use 2 at the time. I let one cool while I use the other.

I must have gotten a bad one--seems I'm the only one that has an American Angler and hates it. The trigger is hard to work and the blades don't slide in or out easily.

Don't waste your money on those expensive electric knives specifically designed for filleting fish.....I use a plain old electric knife you can buy at Wal-Mart for $9.95...it does just as good a job, if you know what you're doing...make a cut behind the gillplate, then run the knife along the backbone to the tail, leaving enough skin to anchor the fillet...then make a shallow angle cut underneath the skin from the tail to the shoulder....presto...the perfect filet...bon appetit'...

    I agree Bushrod.
I get the fancy knifes as gifts, and when I take these folks fishing and don't use the knife they gave me when we clean there fish I have to tell them sorry but it's junk.

    I got 2 of those 9.99 ones from Wal-Mart. I think they're Black & Decker. Works great.

I have an American Angler that I got for Christmas & have used a few times. Seems to work OK, just haven't gotten used to it after all those years of the old way. My question is, when I remove the blades to clean them, there is red looking grease on the ends of the blades. Does this have to be replaced occasionally & what type of lubricant do you use?

Great question hawkman. I wish I could find some of that red colored grease too. If you figure out what that stuff is and where to get some let us know please.

I suspect that I could call American Anglers if they have a toll free number.
