Wannabe,
the reasons you listed are the exact reasons I was thinking I would be better off with baitcasters. I think their gonna be the ticket for me! Thanks guys for all of your responses.

I use the trigger spincast but I mainy tightline of use a slip cork method. Them spinning reels are mess for me I come from a bass fishing background with baitcasts. Before that I was using a canepole!
Was that a bite? Forgot what they feel like!
I've used spinning, underspin and baitcasters (real baitcasters, not the $10 plastic junk). Baitcasters are now my best friends.
It's a matter of personal preference, but generally, crappie fishing is a light-line game and spinning gear is better suited for light line.
I just keep it simple. I use spinning gear on bass and crappie; medium stuff on bass and ultra-light on crappie. I have spinning reels on the 14' Wally Marshalls and they do just fine.
Actually, a 10-dollar fly-rod type reel is more than adequate for most crappie presentations. That's one thing I like about crappie fishing. A man can get into some serious fishing with very little money being spent.

I've got a Pflueger (sp) underspin reel on a 12' B'n'M pole that I'm going to try out here when I get a chance. Looks like it will work as expected.
I've used baitcast reels since the old Ambassador 5000 in the 60's. I've also used spinning reels since the mitchell 300's of the 60's. Like both a lot. Never been much of a baitcast spinner person. I started spider rigging several years back and have kind of evolved with the gear. I have gone to almost all B & M poles of different lengths to make my setup work. I have several of the Basspro small baitcasters with braid line and really like them. (The reels are the inexpensive free spool real baitcasters, but I caught them on sale really cheap) Since I'm not casting them I didn't look for any exceptional quality, just durability. They have not let me down so far. I have a few poles set up with pfluger president spinning reels to use for casting and most of the time I use them when the fish are in the bushes. BTW, I got left hand baitcasters so the handle is always on the same side no matter which one I pick up. If you are used to them and like them they are fine. I have 8 or 10 lb braid that is the size of 2lb mono. It's worked well so far. Only problem is that old eyes have a hard time with the small line.
