Chartreuse also is my very best color, therefore my favorite, Chrome blue or chrome black back on bright, sunny days. Again this works where I fish, water color may make a difference where you fish. Key is to have lots of different colors and brands, and if something is not working, don`t hesitate to change. Possum1

    Thumbs up

I certainly am not going to fault anyone for offering what they consider good advice. I am a mature adult, (sometimes anyway LOL).
I am sure I need to experiment more with trolling but I am having some success with drop shotting, so I have put trolling on the backburner. At least until I buy a few more crankbaits.
I do sincerely appreciate any advise when it comes to trolling for crappie. To be honest, I am hoping to snag a striper or 2 while trolling for crappie. I am sure catching some channel cats and green carp while drop shotting for crappie.
I like the idea of fishing a couple different baits at different depths for a half mile and then switching if what you are using doesn't work. I will keep trying until I find a method and a crankbait that works.

    Default Crappie-July 6, 2005

Thanks for all the good information on here. I am going to troll bandits in the next few days. I went yesterday and caught some on mats with jigs. I did not try minnows or pulling crankbaits. We caught alot of crappie but so many were small. It was no telling how many small ones we caught and threw back in. It didn't seem to matter if you was out deep or shallower, you was going to catch small ones and every now and then a keeper. It was fun. I will keep up with this trolling bandits and try Bandits in the next few days.

    Default nice 'uns

That's the ticket - that sauger is what really catchs my eye though -
What I wouldn't give to catch those consistently in warm weather...

So many options and so many variations, it can drive a person nuts. Just find your niche and what works for you and your fishing environment. For those that want to troll crankbaits but 8-12 ft. is too deep, consider a Bandit 200 series or maybe the Rapala Shadrap's SR7 series. These will run 5-8ft. depending on your speed and length of run.

If anyone knows where I can find a generic bait not made of cheap plastic at a great price (around 2.50 each) that is just like the Bandit300 series in the basic colors (white, black, char, pink, etc.), please let me know. I will certain throw some business their way.

Me too - sometimes the norman baits are pretty cheap at Wal-mart,
and have the glitter finish I like. I've got an airbrush and good intentions
to paint some, but so far haven't found the time. I'm ashamed to tell
how far I've driven to find certain baits/colors, and every time I find a
"killer", they quit making it. I blame bass fishermen - they drive the
crankbait market, and the baits change like high fashion clothes -
its not "in" anymore, so quit making it. Has anybody besides me noticed
the Bandits have stopped coming out with Mustad Triple Grip hooks?
One of the few baits I use I didn't feel compelled to change hooks on,
    and they mess it up!
