I was in the water on the fourth at 5am. I caught 15 keeper crappie, and a boat load of channel catfish from 2-5lbs a piece. I was done at 9:30, and the maddening mayhem of the lake lice was beginning. Until the nuts started running to and fro, the channel that I was spider rigging in was loaded with schooling shad. The fishfinder almost overloaded with the fish feeding on the shad. Here on Barkley it is always bad on a holiday!

I have to give it to you guys who go out early in the morning on the holidays. Usually, I've got the rest of the week to enjoy the water so I just stay home when it's crowded on the weekends.

The thing I'd hate, if I did go out early on the 4th, is that it probably would be my best fishing day ever with nothing but 15 inchers and up and then I'd just have to give it all up to save my neck from the speedsters.
