What hook to use w/ minnows ?

I like a # 2 gold aberdeen hook when fishing minnows but if I think there is a good chance of running into some other fish than crappie I go with a 2/0 gold aberdeen hook. I am running 10# test because I often hook catfish while crappie fishing that a 4 # or 6 # test line wouldn't hold. I am not a purest and don't mind hooking a decent cat while crappie fishing. LOL. I often catch both on the same rigs.

I use #2 red hooks 80% of the time with minnows,have & do also use them in gold an black.It seems the red hooks outcatch the others by about 2 to1.i also try to use 32"s with my jigheads but find it hard to get the1/32 oz with a 2 ,sousually fish a 4 with them. GOOD Fishin To Ya!!!Dennis

i use a sharp hook lol, #8 aberdeen light wire gold just aint had any luck with bood hooks

If I am fishing with jigs and decide to try a minnow I will just use the bare jig head. Although I have had times were they won't hit a minnow on a jig head and will hit one on a gold hook Ain't it fun just trying to figure them out. :p

When trolling with just a hook and minnow I use Tru Turn hooks. For some reason they have been hard to find around my neck of the woods so I'm glad to see they are one of our sponsors now. (see TTI-Blakemore at top of page). I've never tried the red ones but after reading some of these posts, I'll have to give them a try.
