Ethonol is made with water and if it sits still for a few weeks it starts to seperate from the mixture... If you use your equipment once every 2 weeks then you will never have a problem and adding fuel stabilizer will lenghthen that duration... Shake your fuel cans occationally to disturb the mix or remix it.... Everything is cool ...Gas turns to turpentine if it sets - same with ethanol , just a little sooner... Hope this puts your minds to rest

Ok, I've heard this before. What I am trying to understand is what exactly is the damage or fault? For example I started my chainsaw recently which has sat for a couple of years now, and it kicked off just fine, so I wonder whats the actual problem? Does this only pertain to 4 stroke engines?

after 6-8 years use with no problems all of a sudden my trimmer, edger, and chainsaw started giving me problems. took trimmer and edger to echo dealer and they adjusted carb and cleaned it. they told me the same thing everyone here is saying. ethynol is reeking havoc on 2 cycles. i ended up buying a new chainsaw later because my old one would not run. they told me not to use gas that was more than 2 months old and run motor out of gas after use if you think it may be a while before another use.

My neighbor owns a Lawn mower dealership. He sells chain saws mowers the whole deal Ethanol is a big problem for all of the manufactures. The seats in the carbs are getting eat up. Take a pint jar and fill it half full of 10% gas and then put a small cup of water in with the gas. Check it in a couple of days. You will have 3 layers with the water (heavier) on the bottom then Ethanol in the middle and gas on top. The separator gets most of the water due to if being heavier. I saw the pint jar deal at a marine dialed.

I am having a water seperater filter put on my rig. How often do you need to check the filter? And then what do you need to do if there is water?

FYI, there are 13 states that for some reason do not have laws requiring them to put stickers on ethanol gas pumps.
They are Nv, Minn, Okla, Ark, La, Miss, Ind, Ohio, Ky, NC, Kan, NJ and MD.
