I had another experience, one night I was bass fishing at Percy Priest and I could hear helicopters coming they were getting real close but they had their lights off. Just before they got overhead the lead which was a Littlebird hit us with a spotlight and a group of about 15 Blackhawks went over followed by another Littlebird all at treetop level with not one single light on. I assumed that was the 160th Spec Ops "Night Stalkers" out of Fort Campbell. I know we looked like an easy target with our warm bodies and a warm motor witting there in the wide open.
I though about it after the fact last Sun. whether their guns were pointing at us or not but I know that they point where they look so I assume they were. Pretty cool having a military escort. They must have known my girlfriend was pissed that I fished so long that morning.
My brother-in-laws brother is an astronaut and use to fly F/A-18's. Before he went to NASA he did airshows. The last airshow he flew was here in Smyrna, TN. Well his whole family was there including both grandmothers in their 70's who hadn't seen him fly too many times. I'm here to tell you it was pretty kick-a$$. They sent 2 jets in case there was an issue. We got to sit away from the main crowd under the wing of the other on. Being able to be away from the crowd meant that he could fly over us. On his last pass he came over us sideways well he wasn't supposed to be lower than 200' but when he came by us I swear I could see Lt. Cmdr. Barry "Butch" Wilmore (at that time), not on the side of his plane, but on the patch on his flight-suit. He got scolded by the FAA after he signed autographs.
I still see him come into Nashville airport while I'm at work now he flys a little blue and white NASA jet but he don't do any tricks. We've already planned that when he finally gets to go to space we're all taking a charter bus down to watch. But who knows when that will happen. They are supposed to have a launch soon and maybe he will get to go not long after. A man dreams his whole life and gets this close to it happening, I sure hope it does.

All that noise from the jets is also the "sound of freedom". And the reason I have tinitus and lost a lot of my hearing. But I'd do it over if I had to.

Last summer I was flounder fishing in Bouge Inlet near Swansboro, NC which is not far from Camp Lajeune - I heard the dangest racket and then a large slow moving vessel came out from behind some grassy islands - it was a 40' hovercraft all camoed up - it was bearing a US Flag, a USMC Flag, and a Swedish Flag, they came up behind my 19' boat and told me I needed to vacate the area - not like there was any fish left after that thing came through - on the evening news there was a story about Sweden, Canada, and British Troops training with our Marines with some type of friendly fire training - of course right below where I go to catch flounder and red fish there is a big sign that says if lights are flashing turn around live firing in progress - and some times the US Navy has a boat blocking traffic on the ICW - some things do take priority over fishing
with my mind on crappie and crappie on my mind -
and if ya'll see Goober later tellem I said duh huh - he'll know what ya mean!!!!!!!!

fiddlefarter, do you live in Smyrna Tn? I live in Winchester and fish Tims Ford, Woods, and Normandy. It's been a while since I've been because I've had alot going on. I see where you mentioned Percy Priest. Do you fish there? I want to go their sometime whenever I get a chance, maybe you could take me and show me the lake. Have you met Fatboy yet? He is a great guy. I think he is mad at me for some reason, I dont know why. I didnt answer his private messages a couple times, but I didnt know I had any because my message alert was not on. I apoligized, but I aint heard from him in a good while. Anyway good crappie fishing to you.

    Default Mt. Juliet

Big negative on the Smyrna. I'm a Mount Juliet Boy, born and raised and will probably move soon, because they're building a huge shopping center and a bazillion new homes between me and Percy Priest so it will take me longer to get there plus all the new people that will move into town that can afford the new homes will look down upon poor country boys like me that grew up here and used to look over into the fields where the new mall is every afternoon for deer on my way home from work and all those rich people will further crowd a nice, good, but relatively small lake with even more brand new jet skis and ski boats then some will go to Old Hickory and screw it up even more, or I would probably die here. We could get together and fish sometime before all the carpetbaggers move in and take over though. I'd say we got a year or two. LOL

I know the bream are on bed at OH and I found some good beds with good fish. I need to go crappie fishing soon though. Bream are fun but I loves me some crappies. I just figure get while the gettin's good. Thing is I ain't real good at summer time crappie I have a hard time finding them and all the boats piss me off. I've really been wanting to get some lights and try the nightstalking thing maybe we could do that sometime.
