Since we are travelers, that is one of the reasons I got my 115 opti. My old outboard would not be let into california. As far underware, why not have them two tone, yellow in front, brown in the back. Sure would help with the cost of bleach.

I don't like being told what to do as much as the next guy, and I sure don't like extra hassle when it comes to how I spend my free time.

But practically all boaters are pleasure boaters, we're just out there burning gas because it's what we like to do. With the privalege of having disposal income to spend on boats, motors, and gas comes the responsibility of doing it the right way. I'm not saying that EPA has got it right and the new plan is perfect, but I strongly support thoughtful, well-reasoned efforts to minimize problems that will occur in the future, even if it means that I don't get the "performance" out of my boat that I would like.

Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you have ever noticed a problem--like a billion strip malls or crappy public schools or gridlock rush hour traffic--and you say to yourself "Someone should do something about that" then this is it...someone is trying to do something about pollution generated by outboards before it reaches toxic levels.

Personally, I believe that if you use your boat for recreation, you gotta do everything that you can to minimize the impact on the resources: run the smallest possible motor you can, travel at modest speeds, fish at lakes close to home, etc. I also believe that most Crappie.com members understand this and do their part. These new regulations aren't going to have nearly as much impact on us as they will on the "pleasure boaters," so we should support the new regs even if they mean a little inconvenience to us.

    Default freedom?

Every law passed takes away someones freedom.

    I like to eat fish.

I cannot, eat many fish in Virginia, they all are full of mercury or PCB's.

They passed a law that stopped all the hospitals from burning there medical waste. (biggest source of mercury)

So all our medical cost went up, cus now they ship the waste to another state.

They outlawed lead shot, for duck hunting now my dentist makes more money, cus the steel shot breaks my teeth.

To make new 2 stroke motors pass emissions test they say you must use less oil in the gas. Great idea cus now you got to replace your motor more often.
I do not have the answers but in the long run we should all benefit from cleaner water and air.

I'd like to read the real report. NY Times has been noted for printing what they want you to hear and not the whole truth. Come to think of it so does our paper.

Any equipment for around the home or recreation and they set a standard for it, but yet when someone petitions for coal plants and factorys to install better anti pollution controls and cut their emissions they never get nailed???

    Pretty backwards
