    Default My condolences

Jerry I am real sorry to hear about the lost of your freind Lee Roy. I have heard you talk about him in my threads on Crappie.com and I know how much you thought of him. Let me share a little poem I think so much of about when I have lost someone near me.

    Don't Cry at My Grave
    by Ariana Lala Lopez
    Don't cry at my grave
    'Cause I won't be there
    I'll be the summer breeze
    That ruffles your hair

    I'll be in the sunshine
    I'll be in the snow
    I'll be with you forever
    You already know

I'll be any shape, or any size
I'll be the reflection of your beautiful eyes
I'll always love you, and I'll always care
So don't cry at my graveside
    'Cause I won't be there....

Well, Jerry, you know how I feel about the lose of Leroy. Guess the only thing I can say is that he's really not gone becuase he left behind a wealth of knowledge and skill in you. I know the few time I got to fish with him I learned a bunch. I guess that's what it's all about - what we leave behind when we have to go.

    Your friend always,
    Darryl

It was a tough day but Lee Roy’s service went very well. I had the honor of being a Pall Bearer and the hardest thing was sitting there in the front row watching his immediate family say their final farewells before they closed the casket.

His three boys put his pocketknife, a crappie jig and a turkey call in the casket with him. He was a dedicated and skilled outdoorsman but his family always came first.

He was my wife’s uncle (her mother’s sister’s husband) but he always treated me like family. There were many others there who he had also mentored in fishing and hunting as well as in life.

I’ll be back on the water tomorrow and every time someone catches a “sure enough goodun” I’ll hear him saying, “Hold your head up, mule!” And every time I catch several in a row when whoever is fishing with me isn’t getting a bite I’ll hear him say (with a big grin on his face), “Well, you can kiss my ass!” And next spring when I see a nice little opening in the middle of a clump of buck brush where I just know there’s a goodun I’ll see him easing a jig down into that hole quietly saying, “Watch this”.
