The link no longer works so I will try to post instructions with pictures.
For newer models check the posts by TnT for a much easier way.

Here is the fix. Take both side covers off and you will see a hard rubber block on each side. Trim about 1/8" off the top of each block to start with. Be careful not to take too much off at once because the motor will become too loose. I used box cutters and was able to do it without removing the blocks. I've fixed 3 of them this way so far and it definitely makes it easier to deploy the motor.

Mine is hard to deploy as well. I never should have trusted that old geeser I bought it from! But I find that a little Amour All or the like on the shaft and the cradle seems to help quite a bit. I will take a peak at those blocks and see just what they do.
Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks IBNFSHN...I'll take a look at that this afternoon...Did you trim it off the blocks on the inside and outside??
One of the guys I work with used Armorall on his and after a year or so of using the TM, it has become loose enogh that he has no problem. Mine just seems to be getting harder to deploy....Thanks again
Thanks for the helpful info.
I looked at the trolling motor and I didnt have to trim any of the hard rubber. All I did was adjust the Jam Nut as far up the shaft as it would go and sprayed a little Armorall on it...It jumps in the water with a heavy push on the release handle now...Thx for all the help guys!!

I just spray mine with Reel Magic.
I tried spraying Reel Magic, WD40 and Pam cooking spray, but my problem was the initial 2-3 inch push..By adjusting the jam nut, I have all the push I need now to deploy it.....Either way, I am now a happy camper:D
