HOWDY; i have a 1430 OLD jon, i weigh 235, for the d**n thing to set level i needed to put ex #2+4 (same woman) in the bow. still felt very 'tippy'. have been looking for a 14 footer of at least 40" wide and sides of at least 12" - 18" tall. won't go any less. lost my balance when i was a SAR wetcrewman in navy( hit the water to many times, still hear bells  ), so extra stability is IMPORTANT, to me anyway. good luck in your search. tarfu

I have a 14'11" long and 48'' wide heavy jon, and two men of my weight(200) can climb up on the side and jump up and down and never come close to tipping it over. I have had it on Kentucky and Barkley lakes in three and four foot whitecap waves and made it home safely. But I durn sure did not like it, I would not have liked it in a barge. The only drawback I see is the flat front rides like a log wagon in choppy water. If one with a modified vee front end was available, I would look at that if you intend to ride comfortably in choppy water.

I have a 16' Ouchita aluminum boat. I believe it is 52" wide across. I weigh about 230 and it does a great job with me and a buddy in 30 mph winds in the middle of the lake.. I can stand anywhere without any chance of it tipping over. I would always reccomend wearing saftey jackets.

Hi, I have a 1650 Landau that I fish in that works good. I like to stay away from windy conditions and if you have to deal with them go with the waves or against them, not perpendicular to them. Had some rough times at Truman earlier this year with the wind but mine is a flat bottom as well. I think a v or semi v might be better in a big lake. My small boat is very good around trees, stumps, and cedars that others have trouble getting to. Thanks...
