    what about a 1/8 inch hole in the fuel line going into the carb

    That would certainly do it but I'm surprised you didn't see and smell gas when you pump the primer bulb.

    Im susupprised gas wasnt going everywhere.That's a big hole for that pressure.

    the hole was under the hood of the motor in the line from the fitting into the carb and yes i smelled gas but with a 2 stroke i thought it was the exhaust.still dont know if its fixed but im sure that hole couldnt have been good

    Hope that solves your problem!

    Last year I got dads 2 motors out, they've sat for years. One is a late 50's-early 60's model 5 horse Johnson, the other a 73 20hp Johnson. I pulled the carb off the 5 horse (cork float), was clean as it could be. Put fuel in it, and it fired on the 2nd pull. lol, I KNOW that thing hasn't been started in over 25 years.

    His 20hp had a cracked fitting where the fuel line connects to the fuel pump, and had a bad diaphram in the pump. Fixed those & it fired as well.

    I guess my point is, be sure & check any other hoses & fittings for possible sources of leaks.

    Definetly fuel pump. Had same problem last year.

    I'm with all the above. Bad hoses under the cowl or fuel pump. Good time to put a filter in line.

    took the boat out today for the first time after fixing the fuel line ran fine so i guess the hole in the line was my problem
