Well I went fishing today with the new pole, what a blast. Very fun and relaxing. Caught a couple nice 1-2lb Bass which fought good. Also caught Crappie and Sunfish.
The way I decided to attach the line was first make a knot about two feet from the tip. Then place electrical tape over the knot, after this I wrapped the line around the pole until I reached the end. The last step was tying another knot at the very tip and threading the line through the guide. Worked really well.
Thanks again for everyone's help.

So what's the latest fishing craze from Japan? - Tenkara! It's exactly like fly fishing with a Crappie pole. It's an amazing tradition there descending from the time when only the Samurai were allowed to fish and, oh duh, made quite a cult out of it. They only used a long floppy pole and a single (but tapered) line, developed the same casting technique used in Western fly fishing and - here's the real dope! - a FLY! So check it out MNJeff and anyone else who's interested in this arcane art. You can find it at::

Have fun and know that the $150 rods you find there are the same (basically) as the $5 Crappie Stick I just got at Walmart. Go forth and flog!
Wow! This thread has been dead for almost a year and a half. That's almost the record!
Tenkara rods are better quality than crappie poles.
I used to rig mine like CP said. A couple more reasons for that: If you break your line you could use the part taped and wrapped around the pole vrs. having to re-rig everything on the water; also no stress on the tip which could pull it loose from the pole. I would say that with line wrapped around the length of the pale makes it awkward collapsing the pole when not in use though. Another recommendation if you dont need to collapse the pole is to attach a few eyes on the rod and put a small reel like a Zebco 11 on using electrical tape. This way you could fish the depth you want to fish without alot of excess line out on the pole.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Run your line through the eye, with about 8 inches of line, make a loop on top of top section, hold with fingers and wrap line around tip about five times and push end of line through loop, pull both end of line tight, line should pull up to the tip ,clip and leave about a1/8 of inch. this way tip will not pull out
I have the 10', 3 section models. I use my line holders on the butt section to " hold line ". I wrap at least 40 yds of 8lb test on the holders and then run the line up thru the eye. I can let out as much line as i need to use. And if i have to break off, i just take a couple wraps off the holder. The 8lb test lets me bend out a wire hook too. Like someone else said, if they're bigger than a pound, i'll net them.
the way crappiepappy does it is the correct way. The pole helps absorb the shock of the fish, if you just tie it to the tip and you get a good 'un on, you mightl break the tip off. Years ago I use to fish a small pond in a jon boat, I'd put 12' or so of fly line off a 9' telelscopic pole with a mono leader and a popping bug. I'd whip the line kinda like fly fishing and let the bug settle, then "roll" the line to make the bug hop on top of the water. Losta fun catching bream.
I can only wish to be as good as my dog thinks I am
Old thread but thought I would reply to it. I added an eye to the mid section of my telescopic pole and use pre made lines with a swivel that way I can put my line through the tip using a loop and threading the swivel through the loop and anchor it to the lower eye. That way there is not much pulling at the tip mostly downward pressure, the mid section eye bears the bulk of the strain. If pole breaks you still have the fish. When finished fishing I remove pre made line and store it on the side of pole where it is made to be stowed. Pole collapses as it is suppose to.
