Glad everything turned out ok :D
Bob,
I am guilty of not wearing PFD on boat. I will put on in rough waters, etc.
Last time I had boat in lake, I was coming back to dock and boom the winds picked up and waves were foot and half. I got back to dock and got two grandsons off boat(yes they had their PFDs on.) I got in boat to load into trailer. Getting the boat turned around I hit the dock. I was compounding the stupidity of not putting on PFD by standing so I could see the guide ons. I hit the dock and fell back in boat on gas can. :o I asked for some help from my angel and circled back around and nailed the trailer on the first try.
I swore to my self that I would install taller guide ons before next time. After reading your story, I decided to get self inflatable PFD to wear at all times on boat before going out again. Thank you for your story. Let's all be careful out there.
Mary
Glad everything turned out ok :D
Thank heaven I reached one of you.
This is for all of you, if fell in like I did with no life vest and you hit your head going down and kids had life vest, what kind of memories would you have left those kids.
Now this was a calm beautiful day, which could have ended up in nightmare.

popped up like a bobber huh...I bet it felt like forever for you while under the water. Glad to hear you're okay. I remember years ago I took one of my uncles fishing in a little 10 ft boat. We were finished for the day and I tried to land the boat on the shoreline, but only having a trolling motor on that boat I couldn't get much of the bow on the shoreline. Well...my uncle stuck one foot on the shoreline and kept one foot in the boat...guess what happened next....you guessed it...he did the splits and landed in the drink...he was soaken wet and embarrased too...we laughed all the way home that night. I'm sure that's something your grandson will never, never forget! Tight Lines

I found this on another site and thought you might like to see it www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3127. It's a ladder a guy made for his boat.

I friend of mine built some outriggers for his canoo out of conduit and those cushions you use while up agaisnt a dock he made it portable he would clamp it to the boat after he unloaded it. He said he could stand up in after he added those.
always thought that those boarding ladders were to ugly to have but now (and it took a deal like this to change my mind)i think every one should have something for when something like this happens even if it is only a rope ladder,,,
