You're welcome Reaper. hatchetman I looked for an easy way out when I had my 16' johnboat, don't try that. Take the time and money to get the right thing and a buddy to help you and set them right. I just thought because they advertised them as for use in wet areas they meant a boat but I can see what Reaper is talking about. I took mine to a guy who would replace them for a dollar a rivet so iasked him what he'd take to sell me a hundred rivets, he said with a smile a hundred dollars. That's when i took the shortcut and wish I hadn't. Good luck, Ferdi aka Fred

I had bought an early 1940's aluminum 14' boat with severe bottom/side separation on the Starboard side about 18" long. This particular boat had gone through attempted repairs with the likes of JB weld, Roofing Tar and silicone. I stripped all that crap off, cleaned the area, straightened it the best I could, then created an inside AND an outside doubler to sandwich the problem area. Using "Clecos", I located all holes for the rivets, took it apart, deburred all the holes and used an experienced "bucker" when I shot all the rivets. I also used aircraft grade sealer (good for preasures at 35,000') sandwiched between all pieces. On the rest of the boat, I reshot a few rivets that were still good, just loose, and drilled out and replaced the ones I thought had too much wear. When it was all said and done, I had missed a few leaky rivets, but could leave the boat in the water and come back three days later to maybe a quart of water in it.
Do it right, and it will last like it was brand new. Take the shortcuts, and you'll find yourself constantly having to repair it.

Thanks for all the reply's. I plan on re setting all the rivets I can, but some have to be replaced. I've done it before but I am out of rivets. The last bunch I bought at a flea market. Again, thanks for all the help I really appreciate it....Pete
