    Default Question about rosy reds

I want to know what a rosy red is. Is it a small minnow that is red in color, is it a small goldfish or what? I bought some minnows from a guy a few years ago and he asked me if I wanted orange minnows, or regular minnows. I asked him if the orange minnows were any good and he said people catch fish on them. I tried them out a few times and never had any luck with them. They looked just like a shiner, except they were orange in color, were those rosy reds? I dont know what made them that color, it looked like it was a natural colorization. Someone tell me what they are called and explain what a rosy red is. Good fishing to all

    Hey Crappieseeker,

Rosy Red Fathead minnows were developed here in Arkansas back in the 70s from common Fathead Minnows. They are available at bait shops in many states and Walmart and pet shops sell them as feeder fish for fish and reptiles.

Here is a link with some pictures and info on rasing them in aquariums.

The are easier to keep alive than shiners, can be raised in a small pond where they spawn all summer and crappie love them.

Most of the fish on the pictures page of my website - Action Fishing Trips - Pictures were caught on Rosy Reds.

Thanks for the information Jerry Blake. That is the type of minnow I used. I never had any success with them though. I guess it depends on location. Good fishing to you.
