It sounds ok for now until you get in big waves and then it is to small, I would opt for a bigger one myself.

I crappie fish out of a Ranger R80 Sport which is 18 ft long with a 150hp and it is just about the right size for the wife and me most of time. You know how it is with wifes, sometimes a 100ft boat would seem too small. I personally would not go with anything any smaller for the type fishing we do. We spider rig most of the time. The Ranger gives a great ride and we have really gave it some good poundings on places like Grenada and Pickwick. Best of luck to ya.

Two years ago I sold my R71 and ordered a new 519. The ride is much better in the longer boat, besides being ALOT faster. But often I wish I had the R71 back for crappie fishing because it was easier to get into the tight spots and just fished better. You wont go wrong in getting that rig. BTW I sold the R71 for $11,000. It was a 1999 and Green in color with a carburated 125 Merc.
